Episode 377. Craig Greenberg-Louisville Metro Mayor-(2023-???)
Craig is a proud Louisvillian, husband, father, entrepreneur, and community leader who believes in thinking big, working hard, and making things happen.
Craig Greenberg is Louisville Metro’s mayor, assuming office on January 2, 2023.
Born on August 22, 1973, Greenberg is a businessman, lawyer, and politician.
Before entering public office, he co-founded and was the CEO of 21c Museum Hotels, a chain known for combining contemporary art with boutique lodging.
He also co-owns Ohio Valley Wrestling.
Craig, an attorney by training who attended Jefferson County Public Schools and Harvard Law School, helped start and build a Louisville-based company, 21c Museum Hotels, which grew to more than 1,100 team members.
21c received international recognition and helped revive Main Street in Louisville and other urban neighborhoods nationwide.
Craig has also led other transformative, historic preservation projects that have driven Louisville’s downtown revitalization, including 111 Whiskey Row, which was nearly destroyed by fire.
No matter how great, the desire to solve problems will be at the core of Craig’s effort to build a stronger Louisville.
Craig has leadership experience enacting reforms for good government and transparency.
As a University of Louisville Board of Trustees member, Craig led the effort to hold the former University President accountable for inappropriate financial dealings.
While on the University Board of Trustees, Craig also spearheaded a successful effort to stop a proposed 5% tuition increase for students.
Craig has also served as the Chairman of the March of Dimes’ March for Babies and on the boards of Metro United Way and the Louisville Jewish Community Center.
His campaign marked Greenberg’s political entry for the mayoral position in 2022.
During his campaign, he survived an assassination attempt at his campaign headquarters, an incident that drew significant media attention.
Despite this, he won the mayoral race against Republican Bill Dieruf with nearly 52% of the vote, replacing the term-limited Mayor Greg Fischer.
Greenberg has prioritized public safety, affordable housing, and economic development as mayor.
His “All In” plan emphasizes fully staffing and funding a community-oriented police force while addressing the root causes of crime.
He also aims to make Louisville a cleaner city and expand educational opportunities for its residents.
He is known for his commitment to moving Louisville forward and has received endorsements from prominent figures, including Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
Greenberg holds a law degree from Harvard Law School and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.
