In this new episode, Dietrich explains to listeners how the brand was started through a collaboration with the heavy metal band Metallica. He also talks about his commitment to maintaining Dave’s original recipe, artisanal methods, and handcrafted approach to creating a world-class spirit.
The liquor is a blend of aged North American bourbon and rye whiskeys with burnt caramel, oak, honey, cinnamon, and mint notes. The finish is smooth and slightly creamy, with hints of maple and butterscotch. The distillery uses an exclusive finishing process, where each batch is blasted with a unique Metallica playlist put together by the band. The low-frequency sounds encourage the whiskey to infuse deep into the barrel’s wood, extracting more flavor.
Rob Dietrich is highly regarded in his field because he can fuse traditional distilling methods with unique artistry and create a one-of-a-kind blend. He is known for his limited-release Snowflake bourbon and Sherry Cask batches.
His mentor was Jess Graber, creator of the two nationally acclaimed whiskies, Stranahan’s and Tin Cup. Graber taught Dietrich the art and science of distilling, to which Rob has added his flair.
Rob spent 10 years in the music business as a freelance agent and tour manager for venues such as Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and The Fillmore in San Francisco before his career as a distiller.
He is also a U.S. Army veteran from the 10th Mountain Division, serving from 1992 to 1995. His two tours shaped his optimism and optimistic worldview in Somalia and relief operations in Haiti.
